According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, DeWALT has recalled 1.4 million of its 12-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saws. DeWALT has had about 571 reports that the assembly or components of the rear safety guard detaches or breaks off. Nine people have reported laceration injuries.

The recalled miter saws have been sold at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Amazon and other hardware stores nationwide, according to CPSC from April 2019 to May 2022. They cost about $600 to $820 each.

Consumer Reports said 1,364,000 miter saws are part of the recall and that the back blade guard can come off and pose a “projectile hazard to bystanders.” 118,6000 DeWALT miter saws were also sold in Canada.

The recall involves the DWS779, DWS780 and DHS790 miter saws, according to CPSC. If you have one of these miter saws, stop using it and call DeWALT to receive a free repair kit or find a DeWALT service center to take it to for a repair. CPSC said that DeWALT is working to contact all known people who own one of the recalled saws. Call DeWALT at 800-990-6421 or visit its recall website. You can also contact CPSC at 800-638-2772 or visit the CPSC’s safer products website.
