Out of office: Bumble gives all 700 employees week off

Instead of making its employees keep their noses to the grindstone, dating app Bumble is telling everyone to take a break.

The company has temporarily shut down its offices and has given more than 700 staff members the week off, CNN reported. A few customer service support staff will be working if there are any issues with the system, but they will get a week of leave later in the year, BBC News reported.

The initiative was announced in April, but put into effect this week, CNBC reported.

Bumble is a dating app where women make the first move, BBC News reported.

The week off started Monday and does not just apply to Bumble. Employees at Badoo, an international dating app, also got the time off.

The time off will be in addition to their normal vacation time, CNBC reported.

This is the latest initiative to take some of the workday pressure off of exhausted staff.

Four-day work weeks are being tested by Microsoft and Unilever in some offices, CNN reported.

LinkedIn also gave 16,000 employees a week off in April after employee surveys showed that workers were burned out.

“I think the reality of the weight of the pandemic really took its toll,” Teuila Hanson, LinkedIn’s chief people officer, told CNN earlier this year. “What we think is most valuable right now is time for all of us to collectively walk away.”
