National Blood Crisis

The blood shortage in the U.S. has become so bad. the American Red Cross has declared a blood emergency. It’s the first time in history they’re done so, with many centers down to just one days supply. The Superintendent of Hillsborough County Public Schools, Addison Davis, is down with COVID-19. Davis tested positive Tuesday and is in isolation, and is following CDC guideline according to a spokesperson.

Hillsborough County has three testing sites now, with the addition of the newest in Brandon at Hillsborough Community College Hillsborough Community College at 10451 Nancy Watkins Drive. It was a very successful first day, with the lines shut down early. To make sure any site is open, Hillsborough County has a special page to check first. The site is free and does not require an appointment, and will be open 9 am - 5 pm, and is a drive-thru site. The Progress Village Park site at 8701 Progress Blvd.in Tampa is a walk-up site, also open 9 am -5pm daily with no appointment needed. The third testing location at the West Tampa Community Resource Center on Rome Ave., Tampa is a walk-up site that with free testing, vaccinations, the Pfizer pediatric vaccines, as well as booster shots and monoclonal antibody therapy treatment, open 9 am - 5 pm.

There are also sites operated by the city of Tampa at Al Lopez Park on North Himes Avenue and at Al Barnes Park, at 3101 East 21st Avenue, open 7 am to 7 pm. In case of the need for early closure their social media pages will post alerts.

Tom Brady and the Bucs closed the regular season with a solid win over the Carolina Panthers Sunday at Raymond James Stadium 41-17. That win also meant a big bonus payday for Rob Gronkowski. Gronk had seven receptions for 137 yards which scored a couple of of $500,000 contract incentives. Next step for Bucs will mean heading into the playoffs at home this Sunday at 1:00 pm against the Philadelphia Eagles, A win over the Eagles would mean game two would also be at home.

The bullpen catcher for the Tampa Bay Rays has died. Jean Ramirez was just 28, and had joined the team in 2016. No cause of death has been released, but Rays Manager Kevin Cash called Ramirez “an incredible teammate and friend.”
