Evacuation Zones Updated For Pinellas County

The newly released updated evacuation map for Pinellas County will impact 93,000 residents. Pinellas County Emergency Management sent out postcards to let residents know of the changes that were made, based on storm surge models from the National Hurricane Center. The co-owner of the Boston Celtic, Rob Hale and his wife, Karen, have made a $2 million dollar donation to the Save the Manatee Club, and Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida will each get $1 million dollars from the Fox Rock Foundation. The couple has a home in Naples, and the money is to be used to protect Florida manatees, and their habitats like the seagrass beds that were harmed by in part by pollution. 1,100 manatees starved to death in the last year without their food source4. Beds will be replanted in areas like Indian River Lagoon. If you ever see a manatee in distress, call the FWC hotline at 888-404-3922.

It’s game two in the NHL playoff tonight as the in-state rivalry between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office K9 Officer Toby helped find a woman with dementia who was missing over the weekend. Deputy Craig Lariz and his partner K-9 Toby found her in a wooded area Sunday after she walked away from her home. She was airlifted to the hospital suffering from severe dehydration. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister encouraged the public to take advantage of the Safety Net program which uses a tracking bracelet.

Visitors are returning to Florida in record numbers, and that’s just for the first three months of this year. The state reported 36 million visitors to the sunshine state for January - March, a substantial 40% increase from this time last year. Visit Florida estimates 95% of those are from out of state, the rest international visitors.
