Eta Hits Tampa Bay With Plenty Of Wind And Rain

It was a long night for many people across Tampa Bay with Tropical Storm Eta dropping a lot of rain including 8 inches in Pinellas county, with heavy winds that made things especially difficult around high tide. One person was electrocuted in Bradenton Beach, and one firefighter was slightly injured trying to help the man who had standing water in the home. There is still another disturbance out in the central Caribbean that could strengthen into our next named storm. Governor DeSantis issued a State of Emergency for many counties in Florida ahead of Eta’s landfall to make federal money available, Those counties are Alachua, Citrus, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hernando, Hillsborough, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota and Sumter.

If you’re still without power reach out to Duke Energy, TECO and Florida Power & Light to report outages and other issues. Thousands lost power at the height of the storm. For additions emergency information please check the Dove Hurricane Guide with our weather partners from 10 Tampa Bay.

Tampa International Airport had to suspend operations overnight and plans are to have the airport reopened later today. Best estimate may be around noon but could happen earlier. Check with TPA for updates.

Many of the parents at the meeting wanted the mask order lifted for kids inside classrooms, but the board did vote 4 to 1 to continue requiring the order for face coverings for students and teachers inside classrooms.
