Thousands of protestors stormed the Capitol building Wednesday following a Trump rally, eventually getting inside the building. One woman died after being shot by Capitol police and three others died as the result of possible medical incidents. Members of Congress were evacuated but returned to resume counting electoral votes. Just after 3:30 am Joe Biden received the necessary 270 votes to become the next President of the United States. Florida added 17,783 confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday, with the state total now at 1,409,906. Over 22,000 Floridians have lost their lives after contracting the virus, with the total now at 22,317. Bay area hospitals are concerned about renewed strain on the health care system in Tampa Bay with just under 17% of beds in area hospitals available. Vaccinations are being made available to a limited group such as seniors, educators and first responders. and the state has added Publix as a vaccination location but only in Hernando, Citrus and Marion counties starting today. For the first time in 115 years the Feast of the Epiphany in Tarpon Springs was not open to the public. But the traditional dive for the cross did take place in Spring Bayou with the brother of last year’s retriever coming up with the cross. Sixteen-year old Colten Sakadales was carried on the shoulders of the other cross divers back to the Cathedral. It was Hunter Sakadales who retired the cross last year.

SpaceX has rescheduled Monday’s launch of a Turkish communications satellite to Thursday. They’ll try again tonight with the launch scheduled for 8:28 p.m. from Cape Canaveral.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers players John Lynch and Ronde Barber are on the lists of finalists for the Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021. Both have been finalists before but this is the eight year in a row that Lynch has been a finalist. Peyton Manning, is also one of 15 finalists in his first year of eligibility. The Hall of Fame class will be announced just before the Super Bowl in Tampa on Feb. 6th. The Bucs now head to Washington after Sunday’s 44-27 win over Atlanta. Saturday’s wildcard playoff game against Washington is scheduled for 8:05 pm. Because of the pandemic Washington is not allowing fans in the stand for the game. An injury to receiver Mike Evans in the first quarter may have him questionable for Saturday’s game but Coach Bruce Arians said they’ll know more later this week. This will be the first Bucs playoff game in 13 years.
