Amateur Crew In Space

A crew of four amateur astronauts lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center last night on a four-day mission on board the SpaceX’s Inspiration4 flight. Those on the flight were billionaire Jared Isaacman, Sian Proctor, Hayley Arceneaux and Chris Sembroski. The views from as close as Orlando were impressive, and we have some of those for you here.

A federal judge will not block Governor Ron DeSantis’ school mask mandate ban. DeSantis DeSantis issued the order back on July 30th barring Florida school districts from requiring masks in school. You can read the full injunction here.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced a plan to end The Florida Standards Assessments Tests Tuesday. That proposal will go before the Florida Legislature, which would mean the end of Common Core. This year’s test would be the final one for students, and from there teachers would use “progress monitoring,” The move has the support of the Florida Education Association.

A proposed new plan by the state to get traffic moving better coming on and off the Howard Frankland bridge and through the Westshore interchange could cost up to $1.2 billion dollars, with the first phase budgeted at $560 million. For more on the project please check here. Plans are for the project to begin in 2023.

There’s plenty of activity in the tropics that might be of concern to the Bay area. Tropical Depression Nicholas is still dumping plenty of rain along the northern Gulf states, but it’s Invest 95-L that’s of greatest concern with a 90% chance for development over the next five days. Pinellas County residents should be aware of people going door-to-door posing as Duke Energy employees. Duke Energy said their employees are always dressed in outfits that include logo uniforms and long pants, and not the shorts the men caught on camera were wearing, and carry a badge. At least 20 shelter pets were lost in a fire in Orlando last night at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando on Conroy Road. Orange County Fire Rescue were able to safely rescue 25 of the dogs and about 10 cats.
