Clean Start To The New Year

I like a clean start to the New Year in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen, and that means checking out the fridge and pantry to see what needs to leave the house. Amazing how those items that get shoved in the back suddenly show up with an expiration date that you can barely read any more. Those are the easy ones, but if you stocked for holiday parties, bowl games and tailgating that are a few more items on the recall list.

If you kept these sweet little treats on hand for guests (or yourself at 1 am) these cream puff products from Poppies International Inc. of Battleboro, North Carolina are under recall for a very good reason. There’s a chance metal fragments made their way into the puffs. Check the products under recall, and if you want to know more contact the company at info@delizza.us or at 252-428-7118, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. EST. More information can be found at www.delizza.us/press.

Dole has also recalled those oh-so-handy packaged salads due to possible listeria contamination, and has stopped production at the facilities where they were packed to conduct their own cleaning and sanitation protocol. Get rid of any you might have and if you’d also like to have a chat with the company, call the Dole Consumer Response Center at 800-356-3111, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

Trader Ming’s Chicken & Vegetable Wonton Soup: The reason for this recall is for misbranding and undeclared allergens. Simply put, what should be chicken and vegetables is actually pork and shrimp. If you have any of this frozen product throw it away or take it back to the store for a refund.

Margherita Pepperoni: Smithfield Meats sells this unsliced, ready-to-eat pepperoni that may have bacterial contamination. Toss this product or take it back to the store. They have set up a hotline to call with questions at 844-342-2596.

If you have food safety questions at any time, you can always check with the Food and Drug Administration for the latest update and tips. This page will also have the latest alerts and recalls, so keep it handy.
