Cassidy, 67, died at a Florida hospital Tuesday after he was admitted last Wednesday suffering from organ failure.

According to a statement, Cassidy was surrounded by his family when he died, Variety reported.

“On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

Cassidy had been in poor health for awhile. He revealed he had dementia last  February.

The handsome musician and songwriter came from a show biz family. His father was Tony Award-winning actor Jack Cassidy. Oscar-winning actress Shirley Jones was his stepmother and co-star in “The Partridge Family.” His half-brother Shaun Cassidy was also a heartthrob singer in the 1970s and his daughter is actress Katie Cassidy.

After signing on to the “Partridge Family” to play Keith Partridge in 1970, Cassidy’s singing career took off. He regularly sold out stadiums and drew crowds of lovestruck, screaming teenage girls.
