What Was That?

What were all those booms in Manatee County Saturday night? A Terra Ceia resident found what turned out to be explosives in a large PVC pipe  and turned it all over to the Sheriff’s Department. The bomb squad safety detonated the explosives on a farm off Buckeye Road after midnight. They think the were leftovers used to form the channels around Terra Ceia years ago.

Tampa Electric and Duke Energy are in the process of installing “smart meters” as part of a new smart grid program. Those meters will let both companies know when power is out so you don’t have to call. They could also save users money on their bills. All meters should be installed by 2022.

The latest test from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission shows no trace of red tide. The FWC report showed only trace levels of the toxic algae, the lowest in almost two years.
