With more heavy rains expected throughout the weekend flood watches are already up for the coastal areas of Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota as well as all of Pinellas County. River flood warnings are also in effect for Polk and Sarasota counties. Tropical Storm Paulette is strengthening and may become a hurricane this weekend but should make an easterly turn and stay away from land, and Tropical Storm Renee is still alive but should stay out over open waters as well. Cash for unemployed Floridians is supposed to start showing up this week. Governor Ron DeSantis said Tuesday any Floridian eligible for the $300 “lost wages” program is on the way, and you do not have to apply for the additional three weeks of benefits that cover the weeks of August 1st, 8th and 15th. Only three weeks pay have been approved but the Department of Economic Opportunity could okay more.

Florida added another 2,583 new coronavirus cases Thursday, bringing the state total to 654,731. Today marks the 19th anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon and in Pennsylvania but memorials will altered due to COVID-19 concerns. In New York the victims names will not be read by relatives for the first time and the New York Fire Deparment is asking crowds not to attend over virus concerns. The Tampa Bay Bucs open the season Sunday in New Orleans with a 4:25 pm kickoff. There won’t be any fans in the stands for this game, but now the Denver Broncos say they will allow a limited number of fans on their game with the Bucs on Sept. 27th. The Bucs will not allow any fans in Raymond James Stadium for the first two home games.
