Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer announced the charges against Anais Munoz in a news release and said that the abuse began after Munoz moved in with the victims’ family. The victims range in age from 7 to 13.

Munoz allegedly moved into the Chester, Pennsylvania, home in 2020 and began immediately to inflict pain on the children, prosecutors said.

“This is a truly horrifying case involving the physical and mental torture of young victims,” Stollsteimer said. “Using a wide range of implements, the defendant sought to inflict physical pain on these children — whether by choking them with cords, beating them with a bat, or ‘branding’ them with a straightening iron.”

Stollsteimer accused Munoz of abusing the children, in part, to force their “cooperation in providing her with sexual pleasure.” Munoz is also accused of using the children to help her buy drugs.

Investigators said that the defendants threatened the victims with additional torture if they reported the abuse to their mother, causing the children to lie about the sources of their injuries, the Daily Times reported.

When detectives interviewed the children, they reported Munoz used various items to inflict abuse, including a lighter, a hammer, cords, a torch, hangers, a computer and knives. Prosecutors said Munoz used a hair straightener to intentionally burn the oldest victims in their thighs, buttocks and genital areas.

Munoz was arrested in New Jersey and was expected to be extradited to Pennsylvania on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
