Texas woman accused of swapping price tags from cosmetics, police say

LAREDO, Texas — A Texas woman is accused of swapping price tags on cosmetics in order to pay cheaper prices for them, authorities said.

Brenda Guadalupe Tovar, 36, of Laredo, was arrested Saturday and charged with fraud removal concealment, according to Webb County online booking records.

Officers from the Laredo Police Department responded to a Walmart in Laredo at about 3:53 p.m. CST, the Laredo Morning Times reported. Loss prevention personnel at the store told authorities that Tovar was trying to pay for cosmetics by using different price tags, the newspaper reported.

Tovar attempted to use 50-cent price tags instead of the original ones, according to KGNS.

The total value of the cosmetics was $192.12, according to police.

Bail for Tovar was set at $3,000, according to online records.
