WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of wounding another man during a shooting at a South Florida convenience store on Thursday, authorities said.

Leroy Brown III, 22, of Riviera Beach, was arrested on Thursday and charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in public, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to the West Palm Beach Police Department, the shooting occurred at 4:41 p.m. EDT at a convenience store that formerly doubled as a gas station, WPEC-TV reported.

Detectives said the victim, who was driving a white Volkswagen, unknowingly backed their vehicle into the suspect’s red Mercedes, striking the bumper, according to the television station.

According to the victim, Brown pulled out a handgun and approached the vehicle, WPLG-TV reported. Detectives said that Brown allegedly opened the driver’s side door of the vehicle and shot the victim, according to the television station.

Investigators said the victim also fired shots at Brown as the suspect left the area, according to WPEC. A third vehicle was struck during the exchange of gunfire, deputies said.

Anthony Burks and his wife, Trina Slade-Burks, said they were almost hit by a stray bullet during the exchange of gunfire.

“We were talking, and all of a sudden, my window blew out on my side, and then I started hearing the sounds of gunshots,” Slade-Burks told WPEC. “Someone or something was on our side that day.”

The bullet narrow missed the couple, entering a passenger side window and exiting through a windshield.

“When I heard the pop of the window, I was more concerned with making sure (my wife) was OK,” Burks told WPEC.

Brown was later arrested at an apartment complex in West Palm Beach, according to the television station. He remains in the Palm Beach County Jail, online records show.
