Animal Enforcement Officer Amy Riccio found the dog trapped on an island, holding onto the log near Bassville Park, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Knowing what lurks in the waters, (neighbors) were concerned the alligators would get to the dog before units could arrive,” the agency said on social media.

Riccio arrived, and without hesitation built a makeshift bridge to reach the island. She was able to quickly earn the dog’s trust. She then carried the dog on her shoulders to safety.

The dog was taken to the Lake County Animal Shelter until its owner can be found.
