Fire Engine 17 was taken from the parking lot of the Delux Inn, located in south Fort Worth, shortly after it arrived at the motel at about 7:42 p.m. CST, the Star-Telegram reported.

Nine minutes later, a person entered the motel lobby and told firefighters that the truck had been taken, according to the newspaper.

Crew members stepped out of the lobby in time to see the truck exiting the parking lot, WFAA-TV reported.

After calling police, crews were able to find the truck about a block away from the model, according to KFDW-TV. Tire tracks in the ice was evidence that the driver had lost control of the vehicle and had crashed, the television station reported.

The vehicle had minor damage and the person who had taken it had left the scene, WFAA reported. There were no injuries related to the theft and the truck was taken out of commission while officials investigated the incident.

The care for the patient was not impacted by the theft, a fire department spokesperson told the Star-Telegram.
