SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. — A man who broke into a California home and began attacking his ex-girlfriend was fatally stabbed and beaten with a golf club by the victim’s mother and sister, authorities said.
The incident, which took place in South Pasadena, began at around 10 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.
The man broke into the home by throwing a paving stone through a glass window, the South Pasadenan reported. According to deputies, the man, who has not been identified, began choking and punching the victim, KTLA reported.
During the struggle, the man was beaten with a golf club and stabbed, the television station reported.
Police responding to a call of domestic violence in progress heard the women screaming, sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Barry Hall told the South Pasadenan. They entered through the broken window and discovered the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release from the sheriff’s office.
The woman who was originally attacked was taken to an area hospital. She was treated for facial injuries and later released, KTLA reported.
The identities of the three women, who live together, were not released, the sheriff’s office said.
“They were well within their rights to defend her by using deadly force against him,” Hall told the South Pasadenan.
