3-year-old dies in accidental shooting in Oklahoma City, police say

OKLAHOMA CITY — A toddler has died in an apparent accidental shooting in Oklahoma City, authorities said.

According to KOCO-TV and The Oklahoman, the incident occurred about 3 p.m. Thursday at a home near the intersection of Martin Luther King Avenue and Northeast 30th Street. Oklahoma City police said a 3-year-old was critically hurt after suffering a gunshot wound to the torso, KOCO reported. The toddler later died from the injury, police said.

Police have not revealed the circumstances that led to the shooting, according to the news outlets. KOCO reported that “more than one child” was home at the time. It was not immediately known whether an adult was home, the station reported.

“We’ve been able to determine that it appears to have been an accidental thing,” police Capt. Rod Strecker told KOCO.
