Enalisa Briana Blackman and Michael Tyreek Ifeanacho, both 20, were charged with capital murder in the death of Khambrail Winters, 20, a defensive back for Texas State, on Tuesday night, KSAT reported.

Blackman and Ifeanacho were being held in the Hays County Jail, according to a news release from the City of San Marcos.

Officers were called to The Lodge Apartments at 9:13 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots, KENS-TV reported. When officers arrived, they found Winters with a gunshot wound to his chest, the television station reported.

Winters, a Houston native who was a 2019 honorable mention All-Sun Belt Conference selection, was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts failed, according to the San Marcos news release.

According to witnesses who spoke with investigators, Blackman, Ifeanacho and Winters had gone to the apartment complex to buy “a couple ounces of marijuana,” KXAN reported.

Details surrounding the shooting are unclear, but officials said at one point. Winters was shot.

The San Marcos Police Department is trying to identify the other people involved in the shooting and are seeking a surveillance video, KENS reported.

In a statement, Texas State football coach Jake Spatival said the team “is deeply saddened” by Winters’ death.

“I met with the players this morning to share the news,” Spatival said. “We will stand together as a team and support one another during this difficult time. Our thoughts and condolences are with Khambrail’s family and loved ones.”
