Tracking Ian; Closure Updates

As Ian continues moving into the Gulf and toward Florida, there are already preparations in place you need to know about. Make sure you have the Dove App on all your devices to make sure you have the latest information that may include watches, warning, evacuation routes and how to find gas.

STATE OF EMERGENCY - Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency that affects the entire state of Florida. What this means is the Florida National Guard has been activated and is on standby, and will make state funding available for emergency use.

LOCAL STATES OF EMERGENCY - With our weather partner from 10 Tampa Bay Weather, we’ll continue to keep you up to date with what assistance is available locally, including sandbags. Hillsborough, Pinellas and Manatee counties have declared local states of emergency and are on that list for now, and sandbags are also available at these locations, and we will continue to keep update with changes.

KNOW YOUR ZONE - With changes made to evacuation zones, and for many people new to the area you may not know your zone. Check here for the list from Florida Emergency Management for that now, and if you are ordered to leave please do so. If and when conditions make it unsafe to travel, first responders will not be able to help you.

SANDBAGS; Please click here for the list of where sandbags are available, and what you will need to bring along. That may include proof of residency, and if shovels and bags are also provided. Best bet is to bring your own.

FUEL - The Gas Buddy app is handy for finding fuel where you live. Click here to check for where you live to find the closest station near you.

SCHOOL CLOSURES

-Hillsborough County Public Schools are closed today and remain closed through Thursday

-Pinellas County Public Schools will close Tuesday through Wed

-Pasco County Public Schools are closed Tuesday and Wednesday

-USF has cancelled classed today through Thursday

If you are ordered to evacuate, have a plan in place since shelter space is limited, especially those that can take pets and should be used as a last resort. If you have friends in a safe area, can find a hotel room that’s a good choice. But remember if you do choose not to leave, that first responders will not be able to respond at a certain point during the store. And of course, driving through flooded areas is never, ever a good idea. Neither is playing in flood water - nasty stuff.

Keep crank, solar, or car chargers for your phone.

One of the most important items I have is the charging brick that can keep my electronics going for a few days. Invest in one, and make sure everything is charged in case you lose power. Double check the batteries, and have what you need in one spot and ready to go.

PRICE GOUGING HOTLINE - the state has activated the price gouging hotline if you find anyone who is charging excessively for the basics of food, water, hotel rooms and more. Please report this to 866-966-7226 or 1-866-9NO-SCAM. If you to see who has already allegedly charged with suspected price gouging, those reports are online at MyFloridaLegal.com or by using the free No Scam reporting app.

HURRICANE PREP KITS - To be honest after making numerous stops Saturday to see how things were going and what was and what was not available in stores, water is tough to find. It’s now a matter of double check what you honestly need. I’ve found I have good neighbors who are willing to share, and it’s also a good time to check on senior friends to make sure they are safe and taken care of. Our Dove Hurricane Guide has numerous list of what you should have, and ways to keep what you have lost longer. Like filling up that bathtub and other great ways to keep water on hand. Check this video from 10 Tampa Bay meteorologist Natalie Ferrari for more on that.

We will be here along with our wonderful weather partners from 10 Tampa Bay Weather to keep you informed and safe. Finish those preparations and have a plan. It could save your life.
