Stormy Start To The Weekend

Scattered showers and thunderstorms move through the Bay area this morning, and a cold front follows for the weekend. Our meteorologists from 10 Tampa Bay weather show a line moving through with a cold front behind it bringing overnight lows in the 40′s and possibly some 30′s with brisk winds Saturday and Sunday. Monday is the Martin Luther King federal holiday with parades and commemorations on both sides of Tampa Bay. In Tampa, the MLK Day Parades begins at noon in Cascade Park, and the Black Heritage Music Fest is set for the Saturday and Sunday in Curtis Hixon Park. In St Petersburg, the MLK Day Parade will travel along 41st St North beginning at 11 am, along with the MLK Day Band Showcase will is scheduled for Sunday from 6-8:30 pm in the Campbell Park Sports Complex. Do you recycle? Maybe not, if you live in Clearwater. A story in the Tampa Bay Times says no recycling has taken place since last July, despite reassurances it was from the former solid waste assistant director Bryant Johnson who resigned Monday. Interim City Manager Jennifer Poirrier said she received information on the situation in December. Mayor Frank Hibbard said recyclables are now being picked up.

The Tampa Riverwalk is in the running for USA Today’s 10 Best Riverwalks, and the voting is now underway. Tampa is currently number two, second only to Waterfront Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Voting will end February 6th, and to cast your vote, just click here.

The Tampa Bay Bucs ended the regular season with a losing record of but head to the wild card playoff round against the Dallas Cowboys for Monday Night Football this Monday at 8:15 pm at Raymond James Stadium. The full wild-card weekend schedule can be seen here.

Another construction project that will create the tallest building in the Westshore area is about to get underway. Midtown East will become the home for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas. Groundbreaking was held earlier this week with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor part of the ceremony.
