Selmon Expressway Extension Opens Today

Travel on Gandy Boulevard from Brandon to Pinellas County will become easier by this afternoon with the opening of the west extension of the Selmon Expressway. The trip will add aother $0.95 to your toll ride with SunPass or $1.31 with Toll-By-Plate billing. The just under two-mile ride took three years to complete.

Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran would like to see the wearing masks voluntary in schools next school year. A letter was sent to all school districts making the masks voluntary, but also stated he wants the issue to be addressed school by school. Current CDC rules state students must wear mask and be seated six feet apart.

Another 6,834 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the state Sunday. The total number of cases is now 2,168,901, with a total of 34,439 Florida residents losing their lives to the virus. Many sites have rescheduled appointments with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine not currently available. Two Florida Senators are continuing to try and get the CDC’s no-sail order revoked. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have now joined with Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan on the Careful Resumption Under Improved Safety Enhancements (CRUISE) Act. Among items in the CRUISE act are the revocation of the Act by July 4th.
