Recycle Those Beads

Tomorrow’s Gasparilla invasion will create plenty of traffic delays and detours, and leftover beads. The Florida Aquarium, the MacDonald Training Center and Krispy Kreme are all offering incentives to recycle those beads so they don’t wind up in the Bay and endanger sea life. Here’s where to drop them off and how you’ll be thanked.

Yesterday’s severe weather triggered straight-line winds causing plenty of damage in Hernando and Citrus counties. Some of those winds were clocked at 70 mph. This weekend’s weather turns cooler with a slight chance of rain and chilly overnight temperatures.

Friends and family of the five women who died in the SunTrust Bank shootings in Sebring are being remembered with memorials and more today. All but one of those women were employees of SunTrust. Only one woman who was in the break room at the time escaped.

Gas prices have slowed their climb in the Bay area. The average price per gallon is $8 but will most likely go up again before Memorial Day.Check the average gas prices with AAA here.

Many local groups and businesses continue to offer assistance to government employees affected by the partial shutdown. Services like free hair cuts, food for pets, entertainment options and food pantry’s have been set up. There’s even help from utility companies. The Coast Guard’s Sun Coast Chief Petty Officer’s Association is also still offering help to the over 1,500 Guard members in the area.
