The Tampa Bay Rays season ends with three straight losses to the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS playoffs. The Rays had a 5-0 lead at one point but ended up losing 6-5. The Red Sox will face the Houston Astros or Chicago White Sox.
The Tampa Bay Lightning kick off their season tonight at Amalie Arena one day after signing coach Jon Cooper to a three-year contract extension. The team will raise the Stanley Cup Championship banner before the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at AMALIE Arena. The night will open with a free concert at the Sail Pavilion/Tampa Convention Center Docks with All Time Low at 5:30 pm.
Southwest Airlines canceled over 1,000 flights Sunday, and hundreds more Monday. The airline blamed issued with air traffic control and the weather, but the FAA questioned that saying they did not have any staffing issues. Some reports said it was a possible pilot’s sick-out over the airlines vaccine mandate. If you do have a flight on Southwest definitely call ahead.
Florida First Lady Casey Santis has left her position of chairwoman of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Monday his wife Casey has been diagnosed with breast cancer, describing her as a a “true fighter who will never give up. Former Tampa Bucs coach Jon Gruden has resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after he was accused of sending what was described as a “racially insensitive” email involving DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association ten years ago. Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia will take over as the Raiders’ interim head coach.
The Bucs had no problem against the Miami Dolphins at Raymond James Stadium Sunday afternoon with a 45-17 win. Tom Brady threw for over 400 yards with five touchdowns for the win. The Bucs are now 4-1 on the season with a quick turn-around on their next game Thursday night at Philadelphia at 8:20 pm.
