Plans To Alleviate Howard Frankland/Westshore Congestion

A proposed new plan by the state to get traffic moving better coming on and off the Howard Frankland bridge and through the Westshore interchange could cost up to $1.2 billion dollars, with the first phase budgeted at $560 million. The Transportation Security Administration will increase fines for anyone not wearing a face covering while in an airport or on an airplane. First-time fines are now up to to a minimum of $500. There may be a vaccine available for children 5-11 years old by the end of the year. The research on the drug from Pfizer now goes to the FDA and could be approved for emergency use by the end of October.

Hurricane Nicholas made landfall early this morning near Sargent, Texas triggering a storm surge warning from Port Aransas to Port O’Connor. New incentives from Hillsborough County to encourage employees to get vaccinated include $500 bonuses and extra days off. But anyone who has not provided proff of vaccination by Oct. 15 will have to have weekly tests beginning Oct. 1, and they will also be required to wear a mask while at work.

You’ll also notice more K-9 officers at airports that are trained to detect COVID-19. The new team of canines now at Miami International Airport were trained at Florida International University and show an accuracy rate of at least 96%. The trial runs through this month.

Hillsborough County Schools have extended the mask mandate for another 30 days, now through October 15th. A student can be exempt from the mandate if they have a doctor’s note. Health care workers in Florida will now have to be vaccinated under a new ruling from The Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services if they are part of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. There are also new rules in place for federal workers.

It was a couple from Florida that saved a falling feline at Hard Rock Stadium during the Miami Hurricane/Appalachian State game Sunday. Craig Cromer said he and his wife bring an American flag to every game and when the cat slipped off the railing above them they used to to break the animal’s fall. The Humane Society of Miami received a nice donation from the stadium, and it appears that cat went home with a new home.

The Bucs will be back in action this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium. They kicked off the season with a 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys. It was kicker Ryan Succop’s 36-yard field goal that sealed the win with seconds left in the game.
