The puppy, named Frazier, was allegedly abused by Justin McClellan, 55, on May 22 in Wichita, KAKE reported. McClellan's girlfriend told police that she came home to find McClellan having sex with the dog. When she confronted him, McClellan allegedly assaulted the woman, KAKE reported.

McClellan faces a felony charge of cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, KAKE reported.

The Wichita Police Department is revamping its process for investigating animal abuse and animal cruelty cases, KSN reported. Officer Heather Frazier hopes the new procedures will help the city prosecute more animal abuse cases. The pit bull puppy that was abused in May was named after the officer.

Frazier is living in a foster home and is doing well in his recovery, police said. Frazier will begin training soon to become a therapy dog for people who have survived sexual abuse and sexual assault, KSN reported.
