Lightning For The Win!

The Lightning needed a win to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and that’s exactly what they did Friday night in Colorado by a score of 3-2. Once again, it was Ondrej Palat for the game winning goal that brings the Bolts back to AMALIE Arena Sunday night for game six. The Avalanche lead the series 3 game to 2, so a win at home is a must to keep the Lighting’s hope for a three-peat alive.

This weekend also brings St Pete Pridefest back for the grand finale of Saturday’s parade and Sunday’s Streetfest. Saturday’s parade, the largest in the state, begins at 4 pm around the area of the St. Pete Waterfront by the Pier; “Pride In Grand Central” Street Carnival will be from 11 am to 5 pm Sunday in the Grand Central District. St. Pete Police Chief Anthony Holloway is promising a “all hands on deck” police presence for the weekend. For a full list of Pride events, check here.

It’s also a good weekend to check in with your favorite pet shelter. Most are overflowing with this being kitten season, but there are plenty of puppies, dogs and cats in need of good homes. The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is at 500% capacity for cats and kittens, and 130% for dog and puppies, and needs plenty of fosters and adopters to step forward this weekend. To encourage more people to come out, the Center will hold a a free adoption party from 10 am to 5 pm. Saturday, with all fees are waived. The center is at 440 N Falkenburg Road.

The Suncoast Animal League has their grand reopening weekend at their Thrift Store at 1454 Alt. 19 N., Palm Harbor. Store hours are 10 am to 5 pm today, and 11 am to 4 pm tomorrow. While you’re in the area, you might also want to stop in at the shelter right across the street to check in to volunteer and foster opportunities.

A few minutes down the road in Dunedin it’s the 19th Annual Downtown Dunedin Craft Festival right along Main Street Saturday and Sunday. From personal experience, I say go early for breakfast and good parking, and bring along an umbrella for shade and for showers.

It is expected to be a weekend with showers and thunderstorms scattered around, so please keep an eye on the Dove Tampa Bay forecast from 10 Tampa Bay. Have fun, and take us along on that free Dove app so we can always be right by your side for Continuous, Lite, Favorites - rain or shine@
