Lightning Make It Two In A Row

The Tampa Bay Lightning made it two in a row over the Carolina Hurricanes last night 2-1. The Stanley Cup playoffs now head back to Tampa and Amalie Arena for game three at 8 pm Thursday and game four Saturday at 4 pm. If game five is necessary, that would be a return to Raleigh Tuesday. St Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman will be leaving office soon due to term limits, but he said Tuesday he will not make a run for Congress. State Rep. Ben Diamond and Anna Paulina Luna have already said they will be in the running for the seat vacated by Charlie Crist.

Florida Fish and Wildlife closed Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor Tuesday after a black bear was seen in the park. The FWC thinks the bear may had made its way from Hernando County down to Pinellas County. It’s the time of year we’re more likely to see the bears, and you’re warned not to approach them if you do see one. The bear from Phillipe Park still hasn’t been captured.

Disney Cruise Lines joins the list of cruise companies that will start with test cruises. The Disney Dream will leave from Port Canaveral with a crew and passengers made up of Disney cast members June 29th for a two day cruise. The CDC granted Disney approval in addition to Royal Caribbean which will also do a test cruise out of Miami June 20th on the Freedom of the Seas ship. Carnival Cruise Lines also CDC approval to sail from Florida and Texas this summer. There are no current plans to sail from Tampa, but that order will include the ports of Galveston in Texas, Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida. Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge cruise ship also has CDC approval for cruises.

Reports from the CDC have 50% of Americans vaccinated against COVID-19 and over 60% have had at least their first dose of the vaccine. You’ll find fewer testing sites in the Bay area with FEMA sites shutting down for good in Tampa at the Greyhound track on Waters Avenue as well as those in the Gateway Mall in Jacksonville, Miami Dade College and Valencia College in Orlando. The frustration over finding a space to park in St Pete Beach might not be as bad now that the city has a new parking web page to help you find those spaces using sensors for open spaces like they do at Tampa International Airport. The map will show available spaces in an area from 9th Ave and Pass-a-Grille Way.

Florida will no longer be a part of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program as of June 26th, and that means an end to the $300 weekly benefits. Floridians that receive unemployment benefits will have to show proof they’ve been looking for a job on a weekly basis as today. Business owners will also have to report someone who’s receiving benefits but isn’t following the “work search rule.” That means you must prove you’ve applied for at least five jobs a week.

E-ZPass® is now accepted on Florida’s toll roads along with our SunPass. The Florida Department of Transportation made the announcement Friday. FDOT is also offering SunPass PRO which will be accepted in 18 states.
