Isaias Makes Landfall As A Category One Hurricane

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina just after 11 pm last night as a category one hurricane, and as a name that will never be used again. Two people died in the Dominican Republic over the weekend. The storm is moving to the north with winds of 75 mph. The latest numbers from the Florida Dashboard show the state just under half a million cases. Monday’s total of confirmed COVID-19 cases was 491,884, with 7,157 Floridians losing their lives to the virus. Psychologists are concerned that we’re becoming desensitized to those numbers and need to add find ways to balance to our lives.

The Pinellas County School board voted unanimously to start of school year August 24th at yesterday’s meeting. They also agreed to work closely with teachers who have personal safety concerns on returning to the classroom. The newly revised school calendar has the last day of class June 9th, 2021.

The statewide moratorium on housing evictions and foreclosures has been extended again. The new date is September 1st. Property owners who are not receiving their payments are now in the position of laying off staff and downsizing themselves. When the moratorium does end you are responsible for all back payments and can be evicted for non-payment.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is part of a group that bought the XFL for $15 million dollars, which includes the Tampa Bay Vipers. Johnson partnered with RedBird Capital for the deal. The XFL filed for bankruptcy in April after COVID-19 cut the season short.

Someone stole more than $25,000 worth of equipment from the Tampa Bay Cardinals youth football program. The shed was broken into sometime between last Thursday and Saturday. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office is asking for help from anyone who might know something. You can help the team at their next fundraiser at the Tampa Bay Cardinals BBQ Saturday, at 11 am at Diamond Cuts Barbershop at 5703 N. Nebraska Avenue in Tampa.
