If it’s time for you to hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday, you’ll have plenty of company. AAA predicts this year will be among the busiest since we came out of the pandemic. How busy? Estimates are that 55 million Americans will either fly or drive. Some 49 million will travel by car and 5 million flying for the holiday. Today is usually the heaviest day for travel.
The Florida-based Center for Biological Diversity has filed a petition to have manatees placed back on the endangered species list. That petition was also filed by the Save the Manatee Club, and say a variety of factors have killed off the seagrass manatees depend upon to live. A record 1,100 manatees in 2021, most of those from starvation. Florida Fish and Wildlife has 90 days to review the petition and decide if manatees should go back on the endangered list, then another year to complete the the review.
With the long Thanksgiving weekend getting underway, AAA will once again offer the Tow-To-Go service starting 6 pm Wednesday and ending on Nov. 28, at 6 am. You do not have to be a member of AAA to take advantage of the service, designed to keep impaired drivers off the road. To use the service, call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246. You cannot schedule a ride in advance.
