Florida Gets An “F” From The Lung Association

The American Lung Association released their annual State of Tobacco Control report Wednesday and Florida received a grade of "F".  A lot of teens using e-cigarettes contributed to that grade. There are five factors that are weighed in grading and Florida had a failing grade in four out of five. You can see the full report here.

The recall on infants' ibuprofen has been expanded once again by Tris Pharma. It now includes three additional lots of Ibuprofen Oral Suspension Drops, USP, 50 mg per 1.25 mL. The full list is here  from the FDA 

The extreme cold in the upper Midwest is top blame for about a dozen cancelled flights in and out of Tampa International Airport and out of St Pete/Clearwater. That number is much higher in the Midwest so if you have travel plans to the north check ahead on your flight.

A story went viral very quickly this week about a possible cure for cancer within a year. However, researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center caution you that are two red flags on the study. There are no clinical trials on humans and no peer reviews. You can read more on the story here.

Two Florida Congressmen are sponsoring a bill that would make animal cruelty a federal crime. The Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, or PACT, is being proposed by Sarasota's Rep. Vern Buchanan and Rep. Ted Deutch from Broward county and parts of Palm Beach. The maximum sentence would be seven years.

A new report from the Florida Museum of Natural History's research program may have you feeling better about going back in the water. Shark attacks are way down in Florida and around the world. In Florida there were 31 bites reported in 2017, and it was down to 16 last year.
