Back To School

Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk and Pinellas County students return to school today, although some students will chose e-learning or virtual instruction instead of heading back to their actual school buildings. Hillsborough students will do online learning only for their first week. Be aware of school zone, students walking to classes and school buses stopped for pickups and drop-offs. Practices will also begin today for high school sports.

Marco has weakened slightly and is back to a tropical storm for now. Landfall is still predicted along the Louisiana Coast in the next few days. Tropical Storm Laura is heading in the same direction, and may brush the Florida Keys. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Keys from Craig Key to Key West. The Tampa Bay area is outside the paths of both storms. It’s not the tropics that’s bringing trouble for the Bay area today, it’s the heat. A heat advisory is in effect that will make it feel like anywhere from 105 to 112 degrees today. That advisory is in effect through 6 pm.

The Tampa Bay Lightning lose game one of the second round playoffs to the Boston Bruins Sunday night 3-2. Game two is Tuesday night, with the puck dropping at 7 pm.

There are now 2,974 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Florida. The Florida Dashboard now has over cases total with 600,571. 10,325 Floridians have lost their lives to the virus.
