Tornado In New Port Richey; Winter Storm To Our North

A tornado ripped through New Port Richey Sunday morning with winds of 100 mph. No injuries were reported as part of a large storm system. But there’s plenty of cleanup from downed trees, damaged roofs and more. That same system is dumping storm and ice to our south. If you have flights up to the Carolina’s, Virginia and the east coast it’s best to call ahead.

The Bucs blew a halftimes lead to the New Orleans Saints at Raymond James Stadium Sunday. They ended the day with a 28-14 loss. The’re now 5-8.

An Odessa woman was attacked by a hippo while on a vacation. Kristen and Ryan Yaldor were on a wildlife tour 

Zambezi River in Zimbabwe when a hippo surfaced right under their canoe which tipped over. When Kristen tried to swim to shore the hippo dragged her under. She managed to make it to shore and has injuries to her right leg and will need more surgery. The tour was operated by Wild Horizons.

National Day Of Mourning Wednesday

Tomorrow in a National Day of Mourning as a service will be held at the National Cathedral for former President George H.W. Bush. You can watch the services and the memorials and burial that will follow this week. We have the full schedule for you. Elton John Reschedules Show

The new date for the postponed Elton John show in Tampa show is Monday,  November 4th, 2019. The postponed Orlando show is now scheduled for March 18, 2019. If you’re not able to make those dates or need more information from Amalie Arena check with us here.

The Tampa Bay Bucs would like to see more people at Sunday’s game. Despite their win and breaking a four-game losing streak last Sunday with a win over the San Francisco 49’ers at Raymond James Stadium 27-9 it was the lowest attended game in the teams history. So now the team is offering season ticket holders the opportunity to bring two guests to the game for free but the deadline was last night. The Bucs have their next two games at home, playing Carolina this Sunday at 1 pm.

Elton John Concert Postponed

Hold on to those tickets for tonight’s now postponed Elton John concert. Winter Storm Delaying Flights

A winter storm that’s making a mess of travel in the Midwest is also causing problems for Bay area travels. Over 30 million people were predicted to fly over the Thanksgiving weekend. There are some delays and cancellations reported at Tampa International Airport so it’s a good idea to call ahead.

A boil water notice was issued for Port Richey over weekend. A broken water main is blamed for the notice. Check here to see if you are affected.

It’s Cyber Monday and predictions are for almost $8 billion dollars to be spent online. But there are plenty of scams out there. Be safe when you shop online with these tips.

Metro Ministries Holiday Tent Open

Metropolitan Ministries holiday tent is open in Tampa at 905 Governor St. accepting donations as well as at their Pasco Campus Holiday Center at 3214 U.S. 19 N. in Holiday. Organizers say they especially need donations of hams and canned yams. 

David’s Bridal is planning to file for bankruptcy.  A statement from the company’s CEO said all 300 stores including those in the Bay area should remain open.

Ryan Fitzpatrick started for the Bucs but Jamies Winston finished the game, taking over in the third quarter. The Bucs came close but lost another one to the New York Giants 35-38. 

A massive ground turkey recall just before Thanksgiving. Jenni-O recalled  over 91,000 pounds that may have possible salmonella contamination. You can check exactly what packages are under recall here.

Cooler weather  has arrived in the Bay area just in time for the weekend. We’ll be in the 70’s approaching Thanksgiving Day.

One of the hottest tickets in town goes on sale to the public this morning. Tickets for “Hamilton” will be available starting at 9 am, with the highest premium seat going for almost $500. Lower prices range from $86 to $196. for phone sales call 813-229-7827. For more information check with the Straz Centers website.

Tomorrow is our annual Feed the Bay event at the Walmart on Land O’ Lakes Blvd in Lutz.  Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted along with cash donations. The Dove will be live with Ann Kelly from 6 am to 10 am. All donations will go to the Pasco County chapter of Metropolitan Ministries.

St Louis Inducted Into Hockey Hall Of Fame

Former Tampa Bay Lightning player Marty St. Louis was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night and some twenty of his teammates, including Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman managed to make it to the ceremony. The Lightning had a game in Buffalo so they were loaded onto a bus to Toronto to honor St. Louis.

Firefighter Called To Fire At His Own Home

A Hillsborough County firefighter was on the job when the call came in for a fire in Riverview and it turned out to be his own home. He managed to reach his wife and got her out of the house with this three-year old son. They lost the family dog in the blaze. The home was a complete loss and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.

We’re not out of the hurricane season yet and with just weeks to go before it does officially end we have a system out there with a good chance of becoming our next named tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center is watching system tracking a tropical wave east of the Leeward Islands. It would be named Patty, but it it’s not expected to threaten Florida.

Football action on Sunday saw the Bucs drop another one at Raymond James Stadium to Washington with Ryan Fitzpatrick starting at QB 16-3. But the Tampa Bay Lighting will be celebrating tonight as Marty St Louis does into the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto. Lighting players Vinny Lecavalier and Brad Richards will be there along with Dave Andreychuk, captain of the Lightning's 2004 Stanley Cup winning team and himself a 2017 hall inductee.

Principal Arrested; Kiteboarding Dog Found

Connerton Elementary School principal Edward John Abernathy was arrested yesterday and charged with stealing $900 from a mentally handicapped nine-year old who had brought $2100 to schoo. When the parents came in to retrieve the money they noticed the shortage. Abernathy faces grand theft charged and is on paid administrative leave.

A dog famous for his kiteboarding exploits is now back with his owner. Miguel Camacho saw Zeus with a couple in West Tampa and called 16-year-old Olympian Cameron Maramenides. That couple eventually gave Zeus back and they were reunited yesterday. 

There one restaurant in Ybor City you won’t be able to stop in for anymore. The Ybor City Hamburger Mary’s has closed for good. They made the announcement last night on Facebook. The restaurant lost a great deal of business after a worker there was diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Other locations are open.

The Ybor City Hamburger Mary’s has closed for good. They made the announcement last night on Facebook. The restaurant lost a great deal of business after a worker there was diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Their other locations are open.

A dog that’s famous for his kiteboarding exploits with his owner is missing  and they think he may have been stolen near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. TECO has some good news for their customers. You should see the lowest monthly electric bills in 13 years starting in January. The Florida Public Service Commission approved TECO’s projected costs for fuel and other clauses on Monday.

The Florida Department of Transportation will install a pilot program to detect wrong-way drivers on the Howard Frankland after two serious crashes. It will be installed over the next few weeks. FDOT says the system has a 94% accuracy rate but the biggest problem remains people who drink and drive.
