St Louis Inducted Into Hockey Hall Of Fame

Former Tampa Bay Lightning player Marty St. Louis was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night and some twenty of his teammates, including Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman managed to make it to the ceremony. The Lightning had a game in Buffalo so they were loaded onto a bus to Toronto to honor St. Louis.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released kicker Chandler Catanzaro following Sunday’s 16-3 loss to Washington where he missed two field goals. Catanzaro had a three-year deal that guaranteed him $3.75 million this season. St. Augustine native Cairo Santos was announced for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released kicker Chandler Catanzaro following Sunday’s 16-3 loss to Washington where he missed two field goals. Catanzaro had a three-year deal that guaranteed him $3.75 million this season. St. Augustine native Cairo Santos was announced for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

Firefighter Called To Fire At His Own Home

A Hillsborough County firefighter was on the job when the call came in for a fire in Riverview and it turned out to be his own home. He managed to reach his wife and got her out of the house with this three-year old son. They lost the family dog in the blaze. The home was a complete loss and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.

We’re not out of the hurricane season yet and with just weeks to go before it does officially end we have a system out there with a good chance of becoming our next named tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center is watching system tracking a tropical wave east of the Leeward Islands. It would be named Patty, but it it’s not expected to threaten Florida.

Football action on Sunday saw the Bucs drop another one at Raymond James Stadium to Washington with Ryan Fitzpatrick starting at QB 16-3. But the Tampa Bay Lighting will be celebrating tonight as Marty St Louis does into the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto. Lighting players Vinny Lecavalier and Brad Richards will be there along with Dave Andreychuk, captain of the Lightning's 2004 Stanley Cup winning team and himself a 2017 hall inductee.

Principal Arrested; Kiteboarding Dog Found

Connerton Elementary School principal Edward John Abernathy was arrested yesterday and charged with stealing $900 from a mentally handicapped nine-year old who had brought $2100 to schoo. When the parents came in to retrieve the money they noticed the shortage. Abernathy faces grand theft charged and is on paid administrative leave.

A dog famous for his kiteboarding exploits is now back with his owner. Miguel Camacho saw Zeus with a couple in West Tampa and called 16-year-old Olympian Cameron Maramenides. That couple eventually gave Zeus back and they were reunited yesterday. 

There one restaurant in Ybor City you won’t be able to stop in for anymore. The Ybor City Hamburger Mary’s has closed for good. They made the announcement last night on Facebook. The restaurant lost a great deal of business after a worker there was diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Other locations are open.

New Case of Hepatitis A

Another restaurant worker has tested positive for Hepatitis A. The Toasted Monkey in St. Pete Beach was shut down over the weekend by the Florida Department of Health. They advise anyone who was at the restaurant between October 17 and October 28 should get vaccinated. If you have questions please call 727-824-6932. Four Confirmed Tornadoes Across Tampa Bay

There were four confirmed tornadoes that swept across the Bay area on Friday. The National Weather Service will be in the area today to see if there may have been more. Damage is being assessed from the storms in Seminole, New Port Richey, Spring HIll and one other area that the NWS will check out today. Test Program To Detect Wrong Way Drivers On Howard Frankland Bridge

The Florida Department of Transportation will install a pilot program to detect wrong-way drivers on the Howard Frankland after two serious crashes. It will be installed over the next few weeks. FDOT says the system has a 94% accuracy rate but the biggest problem remains people who drink and drive.

The Bucs will start back-up quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick this week after Jameis Winston threw four interceptions in last weeks game. The Bucs take on Carolina Sunday at 1 pm.

HCSO Sting Targets Unlicensed Contractors

 

 

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested sixteen unlicensed contractors as part of  Operation Retrofit. Seniors were the target of many of those arrested, and there are still charges pending against six more unlicensed contractors.

That three million dollar Mega Millions winning ticket belongs to a man in Plant City. Pericles Procopis bought it in Orlando and matched all the number except the Mega Ball. There was just one winning ticket for the massive Mega Millions jackpot. That ticket was sold in South Carolina. Now there’s another big jackpot. Powerball has climbed to an estimated $750 million for Saturday’s nights drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers Wednesday.

Another wrong way driver , this time on the Selmon Expressway. An F-250, driven by 27-year-old Stephen Joseph Paleveda of Seffner struck Bamnet Narongchai of Tampa who died at the scene. Paleveda tried to run but was caught. Charges are pending by alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Hurricane Michael aftermath: Waffle House opens food truck in Panama City Waffle House is doing its part in the wake of Hurricane Micheal. They now have a food truck in Panama City parked right underneath their sign that was destroyed in the storm and are feeding residents free of charge.

Three new crosswalks will be activated along Bayshore Blvd next week. Those come in the aftermath of the crash in May that killed Jessica Raubenolt and her 21 month old daughter. The speed limit was also lowered to 35 mph. The two Tampa teens that caused the crash face charges of vehicular homicide and street racing.

 

Hurricane Michael is also being blamed for the return of red tide to the Bay area. Winds pushed more of the toxic tide on shore along with dead fish. At least 145 miles of Florida coastline have been hit by red tide. You can get the latest map from the FWC now.
