Ida Cleanup Continues - Here’s How You Can Help

Rescues continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida leaving millions without power and plenty of damage and flooding in the area. Power crews from the Bay area including Duke Energy and Florida Power are in the area to help restore power, along with crews from the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Animal rescue groups are also helping shelters that were in Ida’s path. The Suncoast Animal League brought back many dogs that have gone into foster homes and can use assistance with their care. Pasco County Animal Services also had evacuated shelter pets come in and can use a helping hand as well.

Gas prices are also going up after 95% of gas production facilities in the south shut down because of Ida. Expect a rise of 5-10 cents in most areas for the short term.

The Florida Poison Control Center is asking people not to use a drug meant for deworming medication meant for livestock as a COVID-19 treatment. The Center has been treating people who tried to use ivermectin that does have some other uses for humans, but coronavirus treatment is not one of those.

Hospitals in Florida are reporting a drop in COVID-19 patients for the first time in eight weeks. But the Florida Hospital Association also says at least one-third of people who are in the hospital are there because of COVID-19. For more on coronavirus please check the Dove page by clicking here. There’s also concern about flu season kicking in earlier this year. The CDC recommends getting the flu vaccine along with your COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

The Tampa Bay Bucs have their 53-man roster set with the season opening next Thursday, Sept. 9th at Raymond James Stadium. Only ten new players made the cut this time, but with four players on injured reserve including kicker Ryan Succop things could still change. Check the moves from the Bucs right here.

Tropical Depression Ida continue to move to the north and the National Hurricane Center has stopped advisories on the weakening system. But there’s a new system on the map with Tropical Depression Twelve moving into open waters off the coast of Africa. It’s expected to become a hurricane but is no threat to land for now.
