It’s personal. As it is with everyone I meet at every Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. We are back this year at two locations; this coming Saturday, October 2nd at Raymond James Stadium, presented by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino where I’ll be hosting, and the following Saturday, October 9th at The Shops at Wiregrass with Magic 94.9′s Kristy Knight. If you were planning to join the walk in Pinellas County that has been canceled this year and I hope you can join myself or Kristi to show your support for survivors and honor the memory of those we have lost.
Things will look a little different at the Walks this year due to COVID-19 and it’s important that you know how the Walk will be run. We are asked to follow all precautions, follow social distancing and if you’re not feeling week stay home. We’ll start walking at 9 am, but there will be no formal kickoff. You can start anytime between 9-9:30 am. For full details about the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event please review the Making Strides Event Guide. The event guide reviews both the day of and virtual options for participation. All participants should pre-register at www.makingstrideswalk.org/TampaFL. This is important -the day of the walk, there is no onsite check-in. The American Cancer Society is requiring that every attendee (guest, vendor or volunteer) review our COVID-19 Safety Acknowledgement Policy on cancer.org
I lost my mother earlier this year, and I’ve always be proud to share with you that she was a double-mastectomy survivor. But I unexpectedly lost another friend this year to breast cancer, a man. Yes, men can get breast cancer as well. But there’s been a sad side effect to the pandemic, and that’s the fact that many have put off exams and tests and we just can’t do that. We take our lives into our own hands each and every day and part of that must by keeping those appointments and keeping an eye on our health. If you’ve been uncomfortable with going out and need some help and advice please click here and connect with the American Cancer Society.
