Travel Smart For The Fourth

Full disclosure. I am NOT a patient driver. But I’m working on it, really. But driving around Tampa Bay can be a mind-numbing and heart-stopping experience at times. And flying is frustrating. But the official word from AAA is almost 48 million of us have plans to travel and not all may go as expected. Now that we’re adding Fourth of July traffic to all that, our friends a AAA have a few tips for the best and worst times to travel.

From the AAA Newsroom, if you’re out of here on Thursday, try to leave before 7 am or after 8 pm for lighter traffic (we didn’t say accident free); Friday leave before 10 am and after 9; and when you’re coming back maybe Sunday or Monday, AAA expects traffic to be light. After that I feel like it’s going to be a pain. But some of the most important information to check are your rights when it comes to delays and cancellations, and to have a backup plan.

And that’s just highway travel. I am flying home to Ohio on Friday and taking the first flight out on Southwest. Honestly, I can only hope for the best. I’ve never really had an issue with Southwest but who knows. Thousands of flights have been cancelled over the last few weeks due to weather and staffing issues. I’ll be sure to let you know if I’m forced to find a comfy corner to call my home if I’m stranded for a while.

You’ll also want to keep the Dove app hand wherever you travel to keep an eye on things here at home. You can download it here to all your devices. But the best advice? Be nice, be kind. If we’re all in a bad mood that won’t solve anything! Have a happy and save Fourth of July holiday and enjoy those fireworks displays!
