If necessity is the mother of invention then Matthew Lauther and Drew Arnold, along with a group of favorites known as his family and a lot of friends are the rest of the family. This story caught my eye on the St Petersburg Times site and it's absolute genius. Take the need to stay employed, offer something very few of us can say no to and you have Taste of the Fair To Go.
When COVID-19 shut down all the fair and carnivals Drew and Matthew talked on the way home (a 14 hour drive) and decided to act on an idea they had for a while. Take all the GOOD stuff like what you find at the Florida State Fair, the Florida Strawberry Festival...well, you get it. The smoker is fired up with turkey legs, Philly Cheesesteaks, street corn along with fried Oreos, just about anything you could think to put bacon on including a donut bacon cheeseburger, and everything you miss so much when the fairs had to shut down. But let’s hear from Drew Arnold, who partnered with Matthew Lauther for this culinary creation of all that is good about fairs. I caught Drew on the road heading the to site at 301 and Symmes in Riverview.
I’d say just follow your nose but the GPS might be a better bet. Just set it for 11347 US Highway 301 South in Riverview. The Taste of the Fair to go makes me miss my friend Mama Jane and her funnel cake creations. Soon enough - we never lose hope in Ann Kelly’s Quarantine Kitchen!
