When it comes to great Mexican food, I will admit to being very particular. Okay, really picky. I’ve had some great meals and some not so great. My hopes are high for the newest addition to Sparkman Wharf. JOTORO is the creation of Michelin star Chef Joe Isidori. Easy to find when you head into Tampa, JOTORO is on the corner as you head into Sparkman Wharf on Water Street in downtown Tampa.
Talking with Chef Isidori was intriguing. How do you take a boy from New York who grew up at the fairly loud family table enjoying good Italian food, and then decide to open a new restaurant in Tampa featuring not only Mexican cuisine, but tequila flights, craft-batched margaritas and hand-shaken cocktails? You do it well. Look at our food scene. Pre-COVID it seemed there was no end to our choices for a night out. That has narrowed a bit, but taking the chance on a new place here is most definitely a bit of a risk but one we welcome with a new place to check out featuring my kind of decor -rustic paired up with industrial chic.
So let’s take it back to where it all began, around the family table with Chef Joe Isidori in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen. Follow Joe’s culinary journey to Tampa on Facebook and let me know what your experience was like. JOTORO does have indoor and outdoor seating. I’ll share my own soon!
