Drink Your Oatmeal

That’s right. We’re drinking our oatmeal in Ann Kelly’s Quarantine Kitchen and this Oatmeal Smoothie tastes like an oatmeal cookie. I never thought using oatmeal in a drink would work but this really does. I’m so happy keeping off the Quarantine 15 with little treats like this. Not a tough recipe at all. I used what I had in the pantry and am very happy with the results.

Time to drag out that food processor. May I say how much I love my Ninja that has the blender and two food processor attachments? I tend to give the small appliances a real workout in Ann Kelly’s Quarantine Kitchen and this one is a real workhorse. The recipe starts with a ¼ cup of oatmeal in the processor. Pulse that until it’s a fairly fine texture. After that comes the sugar (natural) from a medium banana frozen into chunks,  1 cup unsweetened almond milk, ½ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground ginger which goes directly into the processor with the oatmeal and blend until smooth. The texture is very nice; think of dunking an oatmeal cookie into a cold glass of milk and there you go. There are 183 calories per serving, 4 total fat grams; 43 grams for carbs, 15 grams of sugar and five grams of sugar. I think I might experiment a bit and add a scoop of protein powder for a more powerful blend. If it’t too thick just add a little water. It’s good for any meal of the day and  absolutely delicious.

Since I already had the oatmeal out and a jar of almond butter I was eyeing, I also found a nice little recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Bites that are happily now tucked into my freezer. I found this on the Well Plated site that I like. There  are so many variations but this is the one I'll keep on file. The few changes I made were using almond instead of peanut butter and no chia seeds. It made 16 servings with 107 calories per bite,  3 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbs, 13 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein. This is another one I would adjust the amount of rolled oats and add more protein powder. But it's a nice snack to keep on hand and very tasty.

I started to work on losing the Quarantine 15 April 4th and since then I’d down almost ten pounds and very happy with my progress. It’s a plan for life and I’m sticking to it. If your working on keeping off the Quarantine 15 let me know how you’re doing.
