GENEVA (AP) - The Swiss government says it's tightening sanctions on Iran. The Swiss Cabinet says the assets of eight more companies and three more people have been frozen. Swiss officials say they will decide later whether to ban imports of Iranian oil.

 

     BRUSSELS (AP) - Top officials from the U.S. and its NATO allies met in Brussels today, as they try to stitch together U.S. and NATO agreements on the pace of combat withdrawal next year. They also worked to finalize a strategy for world support to the weak Afghan government and developing military after 2014, while reassuring nervous Afghans they will not be left to fend for themselves.

 

     SPRING, Texas (AP) - A Texas prosecutor says a three-day old baby taken from his dying mother is healthy and that a person of interest has been detained in the woman's death. The victim's mother says her daughter "died trying to save her baby." The victim was shot to death outside a suburban pediatric center.

 

     LONDON (AP) - Britain's Crown Prosecution Service hasn't given a timetable for a decision but acknowledges it is considering criminal charges in four cases related to tabloid phone hacking and other alleged misconduct by reporters. The organization says police had referred four cases to prosecutors.

 

     TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - U.S. authorities in Tallahassee, Fla., will return a 500-year-old Baroque painting today to representatives of a Jewish family that owns it. Federico Gentili di Giuseppe died in 1940 shortly before the Nazis occupied France. The Vichy government later sold the painting, but his family said the sale was illegal. The painting was seized from a Florida museum last November.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A judge is hearing a challenge to Florida's new 27-seat congressional redistricting map. Democrats and a coalition that backed new anti-gerrymandering standards want a circuit judge to invalidate the map that was drawn by the Republican-led Legislature. The hearing begins today in Tallahassee.

     TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa police are searching for thieves who broke into a U.S. Postal Service delivery truck and took two containers of mail. Police say the mail carrier had parked and locked his vehicle yesterday afternoon and was making deliveries in a Tampa neighborhood.

     KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Deputies say a 90-year-old woman was injured when a motorist snatched her purse and dragged her through a central Florida supermarket parking lot. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says Elaine Scata remained in the hospital yesterday following the Monday evening incident at a Publix in south Kissimmee.
