LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - As the central Florida congregation bowed

their heads and prayed, a former church member stormed into the

church and opened fire, shooting the pastor and associate pastor

from behind before he was wrestled to the ground. Authorities and

relatives say that earlier, Jeremiah Fogle shot his wife, Theresa

Fogle, to death at his house.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A special Florida Senate panel on

protecting children is beginning its work.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos, a Merritt Island Republican,

created the committee in response to the acquittal of Casey Anthony

in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

LAND O'LAKES, Fla. (AP) - Bus drivers in one Florida county have

filed a grievance over a new rule that bans them from drinking

anything while driving. A total of 409 of the Pasco County school

district's 535 transportation employees filed the grievance over

the rule that requires them to "lock down" the bus and step

outside to drink water or any other beverage.

PLANT CITY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Polk County Sheriff's

Office employee has been killed by her husband. Beatrice Ann Dickey

was the executive director of the office of business affairs at the

law enforcement agency.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama presents a long-term

deficit-cutting plan today that will draw sharp contrasts with

congressional Republicans. Obama's plan contains $1.5 trillion in

new taxes and has little chance of passing Congress where

Republicans oppose any tax hikes. The White House says Obama's

approach is a balanced one.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House is set to vote this week on a bill

that contains money to refill FEMA's dwindling disaster relief

coffers. The House plan contains $3.7 billion and could mean a

showdown with the Senate, which has approved $7 billion.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Another trial begins today in a deadly

2007 home invasion in Connecticut. Thirty-one-year-old Joshua

Komisarjevsky (koh-mih-sar-JEV'-skee) is accused in the deaths of a

woman and her two daughters. He could face the death penalty if

convicted. A co-defendant has been convicted and sentenced to

death.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A new study says police lineups need to be

retooled. The study released today by the American Judicature

Society says witnesses should not look at a group of people to pick

a suspect. The society says it would be more accurate to look at

individuals one-by-one with a detective who doesn't know who the

real suspect is.

CHICAGO (AP) - A new study suggests the recession may have

caused a jump in young children being abused. The number of cases

in the counties studied increased sharply, rising from about 9

cases per 100,000 children in pre-recession years, to almost 15 per

100,000 kids during the recession - a 65 percent increase.
