No workers added...Flood threat...Tsunami warning ends

WASHINGTON (AP) - Employers added no net workers last month and

the unemployment rate was unchanged, a sign that many were nervous

the U.S. economy is at risk of slipping into another recession. The

Labor Department says total payrolls were unchanged in August, the

weakest report in almost a year. It's the first time since February

1945 that the government has reported a net job change of zero. The

unemployment rate stayed at 9.1 percent.

KHAR, Pakistan (AP) - About 30 Pakistani boys are being held by

militants across the border in Afghanistan. A Pakistani official

says suspected militants abducted around 40 boys after luring them

across the border but those under 12 have been released. It's

unclear why they were kidnapped.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The threat of weekend flash flooding has

prompted a state of emergency declaration from Louisiana's governor

ahead of a slow-moving tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect from Mississippi to Texas

including New Orleans. Forecasters say up to 20 inches of rain

could fall.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The weekend is bringing new weather

worries for firefighters working on a dozen major fires or groups

of fires in central and eastern Oregon. Officials say hot, dry and

windy weather is expected over the weekend and again later next

week. So firefighters are trying to get lines established before

the weather turns unfavorable.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A tsunami warning has been canceled for

the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. It was prompted by a 7.1-magnitude

earthquake in the ocean. The warning areas are very remote and not

heavily populated. There are no reports yet of damage or injuries

from the quake.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Drivers in Tampa, beware: cameras are

starting to go up at some of Tampa's busiest intersections and

fines will be more than $150 for running a red light.

City officials say eight of 28 cameras have been installed so

far.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Orlando meter reader who found

2-year-old Caylee Anthony's remains is suing a tabloid newspaper

for defamation.

Roy Kronk filed the lawsuit Thursday against the National

Enquirer over a headline the tabloid ran in December 2009 that said "Meter reader killed Caylee."     In smaller type, the headline read "Casey Anthony says."     The lawsuit seeks over $15 million.
