This weekend, it’s a Simply Sunday buffet in Kelly’s Kitchen with a little something for everyone….including everyone who will miss strolling through the St Pete Saturday Morning Market in downtown St Pete. A little thing called the Grand Prix has it closed this Saturday, but don’t worry. Next weekend, all the fresh goodies you can carry just in time for Easter!  But that doesn’t mean you have to wait until then to shop.

This weekend on the lovely grounds of the University of Tampa, GreenFest returns for Saturday and Sunday (can this be the 16th annual already?!) Take your time; there are 81 vendors with everything from herbs, goodies for the garden, and of course, delicious food. There’s a small admission fee of $3, but when you consider that goes to help projects of the Friends of Plant Park its well worth it.

Our congrats go out to Bethany Perry of Largo! She’s made it to the semifinals of the 46th Pillsbury Bake-Off Amazing Doable Dinners category with her Chicken and Spinach Biscuit Gyros, which sound delectable. By the way, this year is a first for Pillsbury; the public will decide on the finalists. Click here for voting info and let’s support our local star.

Heads up for next weekend, with the always good time Second Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival back in Ybor City, along with the Saturday Morning Market; the fun begins at 10:30 am on 8th St and runs through 4:30 pm. Vote for your favorite and plan to spend the day in one of Tampa’s most eclectic and welcoming cities – Ybor!

Something going on in your world you’d like to share in Kelly’s Kitchen? Send it along to ann.kelly@coxmg.com and we’ll let the rest of the world know how cool you are. Speaking of which, my thanks to Pam Lopez from Port Richey, who wins a copy of “Kiss My Aster” for sending us this note about her gardening struggles;” After I retired in December, we relocated to a small home in Port Richey and have been working hard at landscaping it.  The home has a courtyard by the front door.  This is what attracted us to leasing the home in the first place.  I knew it would be a beautiful retreat.  The only thing in the garden when we started was an overgrown bird of paradise.  I choose to put everything in pots so that I would have the versatility to move things around as the sun and shade changes during the year.  I also included a couple pots with basil, mint and cilantro (which are all growing beautifully). “Take a look at Pam’s efforts!

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM KELLY’S KITCHEN

Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace  - May Sarton
