I couldn’t have said it better myself. I have the results of the 10^th Annual Ybor Flan Fest competition from Lynn Schultz, who said it’s all about heritage when it comes to those oh-so-secret flan recipes. Many of those go back generations, but of course like any creative cook, they tend to tweak them just a bit to add their own special flair.

   The perfect example of that is Armando Delgado. Armando’s 1st Place/Traditional Category win was accomplished with a recipe passed down from his grandmother that dates back 70+ years. Armando is a youthful 70 years old, and was born and raised in Ybor City. We also congratulate Diana Diaz from Valrico who took 1st Place in the non-traditional category with her unique pina colada flan that received lots of raves and reviews from the judges according to Lynn.

   Now, if I can just get their recipes…..! Don’t forget two big foodie events this week; the Florida Strawberry Festival opens Thursday in Plant City, and the Hyde Park Fresh Market is this Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. They are the official sponsor of Kelly’s Kitchen!
