I’m sure you know how much I love to troll for treasures in antique shops, flea markets and with luck a great architectural salvage shop. Finally found Schiller Salvage this week in Tampa, tucked away on Rome Avenue. I had to laugh when I read their story online. The business started out as a personal collection…been there! But 30 years later it’s a great place to find everything from the useful, the eclectic, to the I’ll-know-to-do-with-it-someday stuff. Which is exactly why I’ve been kicking myself for not buying the metal wall sconces that I’d take the wiring out, and, well…do something with it! Maybe I’ll head over there later and try to remember where they were. Big place and you’ll just have blast checking it out.

Big weekend at the St Pete Coliseum as well, with the Sunshine City Antiques and Collectibles show in the house Friday through Sunday. The really fun part is the Appraisal Fair Saturday and Sunday. I’m sure you have that one piece that just might be something special, right? Bring it over! I just might have to take a look for something to add to Kelly’s Kitchen. I’d rather have something well-loved than brand new anytime. Take the latest additions to the Kelly’s Kitchen Cookbook; both turn of the century books I found digging through an antiques shop for a mere $5 apiece. One is “The American Cook Book” by Janet McKenzie Hill from 1914, the other from 1900 – “Mary Ronald’s Century Cookbook.” They must have come from an estate, for in each one in beautiful script is the name Margaret A McFarland. Delicate pages, and Margaret, I’ll take good care of them.

Our thanks in advance from Kelly’s Kitchen to everyone who will be slipping into that pink bra Saturday morning for our annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Please visit putonyourpinkbra.com and join us. We always have room for one more. I’ll be down at the St Pete Times Forum bright and early. And if you’re in the mood for a picnic Saturday night, don’t forget the Florida Orchestra will be in Vinoy Park. Bring your lawn chairs, comfy blanket and nice little basket of dinner and join us. I’ll see you onstage!

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM KELLY’S KITCHEN

It doesn't take money to have style; it just takes a really good eye. Sometimes you can find amazing culinary antiques that will make it feel like an old French kitchen – Tyler Florence
