Still In A New York State Of Mind

Looking Forward To A Return Trip
Looking Forward To A Return Trip

Previous Posts

Fall has always been my favorite season and getting to see the colors in the person for the first time in many years was such a treat. Kelly’s Kitchen lucked into a great place in upstate New York for a true home town breakfast and the best apple cider I’ve ever had. I’ve told you about Mapleside Fruit Farms in Brunswick, Ohio, where I used to go with the family for fresh cider and donuts. I now have a new favorite, and it’s only a Southwest direct flight away. The warm and friendly folks who own Lakeside Farms Cider Mill and Market in Ballston Lake, New York make you feel like you’re sitting down to breakfast with the family. How can you not love a fresh, three egg omelet filled with fresh tomato, spinach and broccoli, a side of truly home made home fries with a secret ingredient I still can’t figure out, and dark rye toast with apple butter, all served on yes, a heavy duty paper plate! Then, oh then...the cider and fresh apples. A Honey Crisp apple, the size of a softball, unbelievably sweet, and we made sure to take a bag home to enjoy with a little caramel dip. And for the cider, right outside to their own press for a gallon that did not last more than a few days. No preservatives, just a fresh blend of their apples that was even better hot one evening when the temps started to dip a bit. I’ll make sure to put Lakeside Farm on the list for a return trip next year. Did I fail to mention the bag of cinammon apple donuts that also found their way home with us? They also ship if you have a the same sudden craving I do! More tales from the road next in Kelly's Kitchen and if you love apples like I do, we’ll have a chat with the author of "The Apple Lover’s Cookbook" soon in Kelly’s Kitchen. Great book and Amy Traverso knows everything there is possibly to know about this delectable fruit.
