Over lunch at Ocean Prime a few weeks ago with Candace Rotolo from At The Table PR, she was telling me about some friends that were getting married this Saturday. This is not your ordinary wedding by any means. And that was brings us to a slightly unusual Five Fun Things for this month!

1. The Bride is Dr. Dena Baker, D.V.M., a 2000 University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine Grad who serves on the CVM admissions board and does lots of other volunteer work for the CVM. The Groom: Andrew Taylor, also a University of Florida grad is a former Navy Pilot and veteran. Now he's a wildlife artist. And so begins a Gator wedding.

2. Ah the power of a good cocktail...or two. Dena and Andrew conceived the idea for their theme last year while watching a Gator game, having a few cocktails and planning their wedding. They'll be married in a ceremony at Paynes Prairie State Park this Saturday. Yes, I'll make sure to find out what they were drinking if it was that inspiring!

3. The bride will walk down the aisle to the UF Alma Mater, the couple will take their first steps as man and wife to the UF Fight Song, then they'll join the bridal party and guests for a tailgate reception outside Ben Hill Griffith Stadium to enjoy a Cajun meal in honor of the UF's game day opponent (Univ. Louisiana-Lafayette- the Ragin' Cajuns). This is why Kelly’s Kitchen loves the idea. Can you imagine a tailgate wedding reception, and with Cajun food? They were happy to provide their totally Cajun' menu of low country crab cakes with Cajun rémoulade, mini shrimp po boys, Cajun gumbo with chicken, red beans and rice with andouille sausage, hot dogs, curly fries with Cajun seasoning.

4. Then of course...FOOTBALL! They’ll be dressed in their wedding attire (gown and all), the couple will enjoy the homecoming game in the stadium surrounded by the Gator Nation. I’m guessing they won’t have to buy their own drinks in that stadium! But Candace also told me they're working on their own special drink recipes, which I'll also try and get from them; so far names like Gator Bite or Gator Chomp and maybe Swamp Water or Swamp Tea have come up.

5. Dena and Andy love their Gators, good food and a good party. It’s a great start to a their live. Congratulations from Kelly’s Kitchen.

Oh, and one other item. The lunch I mentioned at Ocean Prime was far and away one of the best I’ve had in a very long time. Their Seafood Cobb Salad was cool, crisp and loaded with succulent chunks of lobster and crab. This is also one restaurant that knows how to prepare creme brulee’, which upon the advice of our waiter, we shared. It is indeed large enough of a dessert for two, and the sugar crust was perfection. I’ll admit I had the misconceived notion that Ocean Prime was a little pricy, but I found the lunch menu to be very much in line with others in the area. The service and setting were pleasant, and I’m looking forward to a return trip. You had me at brulee’...

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM KELLY’S KITCHEN

To Dena and Andrew, let your love endure beyond the last sunset
