Getting Better All The Time

Flu bug or food poisoning? That was the million dollar question last week in Kelly’s Kitchen. Not that I honestly cared Thursday morning when all I did care about was going home and back to bed. "Something" was going on and I strongly suspect it was something I ate (and not something I cooked, by the way). I woke up Thursday morning feeling just plain awful. The dehydration was my main concern, so yes, I’ve kept Gatorade in business. Lots of that, lots of water. But I did find an interesting article online from WebMD that said even meat can be a good rehydrator, which really surprised me. But since some meats are up to 60% water, I get it. But I was not about to indulge in a burger, thanks. It was interesting to hear the same thing from so many people at work when they asked how I was feeling; so many said they heard "something was going around". It’s a good question though, knowing how to figure out what you’re going through might be the newest bug, or something like food poisoning. But I'm not a doctor and always advocate checking with a professional first when it comes to matters of your health.

Food safety is something we take seriously, and keeping the kitchen clean is so important. We wash our hands constantly, take time to keep prep and cooking surfaces clean, but problems can still crop up. And when they do, take them seriously. I’ve always believed that if I think it’s a good idea to call a doctor, I probably should have done it ten minutes ago. I was fortunate enough to feel better in a couple of days. That’s especially important to me this week. I’ve made the commitment to myself to get in the best shape possible, and I’m going in for my first session with a personal trainer at St Anthony’s Carillon Wellness Center. I am one of those people who need a pro to set them on the right track. I"m very motivated after touring the center and seeing what they have to offer in terms of programs, equipment and opportunities to learn more about what’s right for me. And of course, what’s not. Isn’t that the way it goes sometimes? We see what our best buddy is doing and as a result looking and feeling great and we want the same. But what works for them might not work for us. A guiding hand is a great idea and healthy investment in ourselves.
