It's Icing On the Cake in Kelly's Kitchen

From cake, to cupcakes, to cake pops. How sweet it all is! Thanks to a visit with Gina Serkez from “It’s Icing On The Cake” we know how easy it can be. Take a look at what Gina and I did from the Florida Central Credit Union Theater here at Magic 94.9. But please stop in to see Gina and the rest her great staff soon. Oh, and Gina – the French Macaroons you also brought us? Bravo!!!!! You'll find them at 2435 Central Avenue, in St Pete.  The cool thing about a cake pop is that it’s just one or two bites, you can dream up so many fun ways to decorate them, and you can use just a regular cake mix. But as you see in our demo, if you use just cake, they will be very light, and you’ll want to keep the frosting and decorations on the lighter side as well. Cake pops are huge right now, and you see them in upscale coffee shops around Tampa Bay and most bakeries. They’re being used for weddings, sent as office gifts, and they’re a massive hit for kid’s parties. And on a rainy day in Tampa Bay,there's nothing better than just sitting down with the kids in the kitchen and creating your own.

I picked up a book from Wilton for some decorating ideas, and it will really get those creative juices flowing. My co-worker Simone took one look and it and immediately borrowed it so she and her daughter Rachel can have a little fun of their own. As long as a) I get the book back eventually, and b) I get a taste! You already know the inspiration for it all came from my sister Tricia, who had sent me the “as seen on TV” cake pops pan. Oh, and even Martha Stewart is a fan! She and I both like Bakerella for more ideas, and really good recipes!

Have you created your own cake pops? Send a picture of your creations to ann.kelly@coxmg.com and we’ll share them.
