Talk about taking things from one extreme to another! But here in Kelly’s Kitchen, we do our best! This weekend, the Florida State Fair opens in Tampa and as always, it’s about the food. Some strange and mostly deep fried.  The one that caught my eye this year is the deep fried bubble gum. Somewhere, dentists and nutritionists alike are screaming. It’s described as a combination of marshmallows dipped in a batter and fried, then drizzled with pink and blue icing and Chiclets. Good luck with the braces after that taste treat. What else can be found to send you scrambling for the antacids? Also on the deep fried list: Kool Aid, M & M’s, Hershey Drops and Mashed Potatoes. And any number of burger combinations that include one with a Bacon and Peanut Butter Topping, and a Mac and Cheese burger. But from all the Facebook comments, a lot of food fans are excited that Sugardarlings Cupcakes will be at the Fair this year! Now with two shops and an insanely delicious array of cupcakes, I’d go for those first…and last!

   Now to the opposite end of the spectrum, and a much healthier option. On my staycation last week, I saw an ad on Facebook for Jem’s Natural Living in Tampa. I’d never been in and decided to check them out, and I’m so glad I did. Linda was gracious enough to give me a few minutes on a busy Saturday. They’ve been opened just over a year on Sheldon with a wonderful array of products that include earth-friendly cleaning products, green toys for the kids, organic makeup, and she also told me they are only ones in the Bay area that carry the Royal Pedic line of all organic products from beds to linens. Yes, you see one of those beds right in the store! They also have an impressive display of the Bob’s Red Mill products and the creamed honeys are to die for. I picked up the strawberry and chocolate blends and I’ll let you know what recipes I come up with for those. But just delicious all by themselves.

   Jem’s also carries healthy pet care products, and is open Monday – Saturday 10 am to 9 pm, Sundays 11 am – 6 pm. It’s worth the trip!
